It’s the first of this year’s award winning Promart festivals taking place on Sunday April 26th. This is the largest open air arts and crafts fair in the North West of England and after their winter break, the famous prom at Grange Over sands will be full of over 70 stalls of original artwork, sculpture, crafts, jewellery and more.
2015 is the twelfth season and 10th year of Promart which has continued to grow in size and attendance during this time. Promart will be held on the last Sunday of each month until September.
Far more than just stalls, this free to attend event has the backdrop of the delightful Victorian town of Grange over Sands behind it, views of Morecambe Bay and live music being played through the day.
Make it a double arts fest and head to the Grange Institute also on the last Sunday of each month for Canvas & Thread, the decorative arts fair. Enjoy admiring various types of artwork as well as workshops and tutor sessions with the artists with themes such as textiles, beading and painting.
The architecture within Grange, fells surrounding it and light from Morecambe Bay has long been a place of inspiration for artists and this is shown in the amount of local talent seen at Promart.
Grange over Sands is a lovely place to spend a weekend with the nearby village of Cartmel also worth visiting. The choice of places top eat and drink in Cartmel makes it the ideal base when visiting Promart. The Lakeland Cottage Company offer a choice of holiday cottages in Cartmel either available for a 3 night weekend break or the full week. You’ll probably bump into owners John and Claire whilst walking around Promart, John having been a still life photographer and Clare an art buyer.
